대수롭지 않게 스쳐 지나갈 법한 것들이 보입니다.

벽과 기둥, 일부 천장과 화장실, 복도,

그리고 건물 내 주차장의 바닥과 벽까지.

그곳곳에

단단하고도 깊은 결을 품은 천연 대리석이

반듯하게 붙어 있습니다.

눈에 잘 띄지 않지만

그 하나하나가 모두

가로 9센티미터, 세로 60센티미터의 조각입니다.

그 조각들이 모여 만든 전체는

말 그대로 수천 장에 이릅니다.

올해 일흔셋.

대리석과 함께한 세월만

무려 쉰세 해에 이르는 분입니다.

As you walk slowly

through the first floor

of Good Morning Afternoon,

you may notice things

that could easily be passed by.

Walls and columns.

Parts of the ceiling and restrooms.

Corridors.

Even the floors and walls

of the indoor parking area.

Throughout these places,

natural marble

with a deep, steady grain

has been set carefully in place.

It may not stand out at first glance,

but each piece

measures

9 centimeters wide

and 60 centimeters long.

Thousands of such pieces

come together

to form the whole.

One person’s time

The person

who placed all of these pieces

was just one.

Seventy-three years old this year,

with fifty-five years

spent alongside marble.

Through spring,

through summer,

across autumn and winter,

he set each piece of stone

into this space—

one by one.

By hand.

Not by speed,

but by care.

Not by process,

but by time.

The walls, floors, and ceilings

completed in this way

are the 마음

of one person

who held onto the seasons.

Surfaces set with care
